FAQs

Should I take medication?

Medication has been shown to be very effective in mitigating mental health symptoms, yet we realize it is sometimes a difficult decision to make. We will discuss multiple treatment plans and determine a plan that you feel comfortable with.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone's circumstances are unique to them and the length for relief of symptoms will vary. The goal of Tranquil & Serene is a complete reduction of mental health symptoms and increased functioning.

What if I'm on medication and want to discontinue it?

If you are interested in reducing your medication, Tranquil & Serene Integrative Care will review your history with you. It is never advisable to stop medication abruptly, due to unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Rather we will slowly taper off medication. to reduce withdrawal symptoms.

Do you offer counseling?

Tranquil & Serene Offers brief supportive counseling and is solution-focused.

What can I expect during the initial intake?

Intakes are typically one hour in length. During the intake process, we will discuss your past treatments, current treatments, and future goals. We will also identify additional treatment that may be needed to provide additional support to you. As part of an integrative practice, typically during our second session, we will deep dive into your health/nutrition. Please browse the site to gather insight about nutritional psychiatry and the role of food on mental health.

What happens after the first intake?

If you decide you wish to start medication, typically you will be seen again within two weeks to assess for side effects. Pt are seen at minimum every six weeks.

Is there a Benzo policy in place?

Benzos may be prescribed for short-term use only. Long-term use often leads to dependence and tolerance. Long-term use is not recommended.

What is Genetic Testing?

Genetic testing is study of how genes affect a person's response to medications. Testing may help to determine the most effective and safe medications to use in treatment. This is tailored to a person's genetic makeup. The testing is done in office using a cheek swab sample which is sent to an outside lab. Results are back in 7-10 business days, then discussed with patient. This testing is covered by most insurance plans.

Can we talk first before scheduling an intake?

Absolutely. We know it's difficult to find a good fit for your mental health treatment. Tranquil & Serene offers 15-minute free phone consults. This is your opportunity to ask questions about treatment, determine if you are comfortable with the provider. We encourage it!

I'm not sure if I'm ready for medication. Can I wait?

Yes, Tranquil and Serene prides itself on empowering patients to make the best decision possible. You are under no obligation or pressure to start medication right away. You may decide you want to start non-pharmacological approaches first. Again, plans are tailored to your needs and preferences.
