Anxiety
The term "Anxiety Disorder" refers to a group of treatable medical conditions that manifest with excessive fear or worry, resulting in distress beyond what is appropriate for the situation. They include Specific Phobias, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attack Disorder (or panic disorder), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and others.
Below are common symptoms experienced by people with anxiety:
- Nervousness, restlessness, or being tense
- Feelings of danger, panic, or dread
- Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
- Increased or heavy sweating
- Trembling or muscle twitching
- Weakness or lethargy
- Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
- Insomnia
- Obsessions about certain ideas; a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past; a sign of post-traumatic stress disorder
Medication managment with therapy is the gold standard of treatment in managing mental health symptoms.
